Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has highlighted the state’s changing sporting culture since 2017, saying the government’s initiatives have created greater awareness among young people and opened new opportunities for sportspersons.

He said, “Merit on the field, recognition for achievements and opportunities for talented sportspersons to serve the nation together represent the new sporting culture of the ‘New Uttar Pradesh’."

Focus on Merit and Sporting Talent

The Chief Minister also recalled what he described as the neglect of sportspersons before 2017 and pointed to the new sports policy introduced after his government came to power.

In a post on X, Adityanath said, “Taking this culture forward, appointment letters will be handed over today to a total of 470 sportspersons selected under the skilled sportsperson quota in the Uttar Pradesh Police. These include 43 Sub-Inspectors (Civil Police), 295 Constables (Civil Police) and 132 Constables (PAC).

He said the recruitment of sportspersons into government service reflected the transformation Uttar Pradesh had witnessed since 2017.

According to the Chief Minister, the sports quota had earlier remained neglected, with recruitment often associated more with recommendations and influence than sporting merit.

Athletes Linked to Government Jobs

Adityanath said the “double-engine government” had worked to connect sporting talent with employment and provide athletes with a more secure future.

He said more than 534 sportspersons had so far been directly recruited across various government departments. The recruitment process for another 866 sportspersons in the Uttar Pradesh Police is also underway.

The Chief Minister congratulated all the selected sportspersons and extended his best wishes for their future, expressing hope that they would achieve success in their careers and continue contributing to the nation.
