Mumbai: Two people lost their lives and eight others suffered serious injuries after a car allegedly went out of control and rammed into pedestrians in Sector 10 of Taloja in Navi Mumbai on Monday. The driver is reported to have fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle, prompting a police search.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred when the driver allegedly lost control of the car while passing through Sector 10. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into people who were either walking or standing along the roadside.
The force of the collision was severe, with the car reportedly hitting between eight and ten pedestrians within seconds.
Two victims died on the spot due to the impact of the crash. Eight others sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital by local residents and emergency responders.
Hospital sources said some of the injured remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment.
After the accident, the driver allegedly got out of the damaged vehicle and fled before police personnel reached the location. The abandoned car has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Police have launched a search to trace the accused driver and are examining the circumstances that led to the crash. Further details regarding the identities of the victims and the exact cause of the accident are awaited as the investigation continues.
