
Teen ends life over NEET UG 2026 cancellation (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: A 17-year-old student from Goa’s Curtorim allegedly died by suicide after reportedly being distressed over the cancellation of the NEET-UG examination following the ongoing paper leak controversy.
Police said the incident took place on Wednesday at the teenager’s residence. The student was pursuing higher secondary education at a school in Margao and had reportedly been preparing for competitive entrance examinations.
According to officials, the teenager left behind a note stating that he no longer wished to appear for competitive examinations.
The student’s father, who works as a railway guard, discovered him after returning home. At the time of the incident, the teen’s mother and sister had reportedly travelled to their native village.
Police said the family originally belongs to Bengaluru and had been residing in Goa.
The Maina-Curtorim police station has registered the matter as a case of unnatural death. The body has been preserved at the South Goa District Hospital mortuary for further formalities.
Police inspector Kapil Naik said further investigation is currently underway to establish all circumstances linked to the incident.
