Nepal Flood Horror: Giant Wall of Water Sweeps Away Homes, 160 Dead & 750 Missing; 133 Indians Trapped as India Sends Help

Nepal faces a massive flash flood disaster with over 160 deaths and more than 500 people missing. India has sent relief supplies, while Uttar Pradesh and Bihar remain on high alert.

New Delhi: A devastating flash flood in Nepal and the Tibet border region has caused widespread destruction, leaving more than 160 people dead and over 750 missing. Rescue teams from the Nepal Army, police, and security forces are conducting operations in the affected areas.

The disaster was triggered by a sudden surge of water and debris through rivers including the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli. Several districts, including Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, and Chitwan, have been severely affected. Bridges have been washed away, roads damaged, and multiple hydropower projects have suffered losses.

Rasuwa Worst Hit, Rescue Operations Face Challenges

Rasuwa district has emerged as one of the worst-affected areas. Videos from the region showed powerful floodwaters sweeping through settlements, damaging buildings, and carrying away debris. Rescue operations have become difficult due to heavy mud, damaged infrastructure, and adverse weather conditions.

The Nepal Army has deployed helicopters for search and rescue missions. Emergency medical facilities have also been set up to provide treatment to injured people. However, officials warned that rescue efforts could be delayed in some areas until floodwaters recede.

India Sends 10 Tonnes of Aid, UP and Bihar on Alert

India has extended immediate assistance to Nepal following the disaster. A military transport aircraft carrying 10 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) supplies, including essential medicines, temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, and solar lamps, has been sent to Nepal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah and assured full support during the crisis. Around 133 Indians are reportedly missing, many of them pilgrims travelling for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Following the floods in Nepal, authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have increased vigilance. The possibility of rising water levels in rivers like the Gandak has prompted officials to strengthen monitoring in border districts. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue agencies have been kept on standby.
