Lucknow: The devastating floods in Nepal have increased concerns in neighbouring Indian states, with Bihar and Uttar Pradesh stepping up vigilance. Authorities are keeping a close watch on rivers originating from Nepal, especially the Gandak, amid fears of rising water levels.

The flash floods that hit Nepal's Bhote Koshi River region near the Tibet border caused widespread destruction, forcing Indian authorities to review their preparedness plans in vulnerable districts.

Bihar Officials Inspect Gandak River Areas

In Bihar, officials have increased monitoring around the Gandak River, particularly in West Champaran and nearby areas. Teams are inspecting embankments and important flood-control structures to ensure safety.

West Champaran District Magistrate Taranjot Singh said officials are closely monitoring the situation at the Valmikinagar Barrage and other sensitive locations.

"All departments have been asked to remain alert. The safety of embankments is our priority, and regular inspections are being carried out," officials said.

Gandak River Flow Improves After Sudden Rise

The water level of the Gandak River showed improvement after a sudden increase caused by heavy flooding upstream in Nepal and Tibet.

Officials said the situation remained under control as embankments continued to withstand pressure. People living near riverbanks have been advised to stay cautious and follow local administration updates.

UP Administration Steps Up Flood Preparedness

Uttar Pradesh has also increased monitoring following directions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Relief Commissioner's office is keeping a 24-hour watch on the situation.

District authorities in flood-sensitive areas have been asked to remain prepared, with emergency teams kept on standby to respond if needed.
