Hyderabad: As New Year’s Eve approaches, Hyderabad city police have put in place a comprehensive security framework to ensure peaceful celebrations and public safety. With large crowds expected across the city, authorities have announced strict regulations and enforcement measures aimed at preventing accidents, traffic chaos, and law and order issues. The focus this year is on deterrence, discipline, and responsibility among revelers.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has made it clear that there will be no leniency toward violations. During a high level video conference held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills, he briefed officers on ground level operations and instructed them to enforce rules strictly. He stressed that any breach of guidelines would attract firm legal action without compromise.
Authorities have mandated that all New Year celebrations within city limits must conclude by 1.00 am. Event organizers have been cautioned not to extend festivities beyond the permitted time or violate noise pollution norms. The police have warned that any deviation from these rules will lead to immediate action, emphasizing the need for orderly celebrations.
A zero tolerance policy has been announced against the illegal sale of alcohol. The police have specifically warned against backdoor sales at wine shops and unauthorized open bar operations beyond permitted hours. Any establishment found violating these rules will face swift prosecution, as authorities aim to curb alcohol related disturbances during the festivities.

In a major preventive step, traffic police will begin drunk and drive checks from as early as 7.00 pm on New Year’s Eve. Special teams will be deployed at 120 strategic locations across Hyderabad. Offenders face severe consequences including fines of up to Rs 10,000, imprisonment, seizure of vehicles, and permanent cancellation of driving licenses. This enforcement drive will continue through the first week of January to reinforce road safety.
Cab and auto rickshaw drivers have also been warned against exploiting passengers during the holiday rush. Refusal to accept rides or demanding excessive fares will invite action under the Motor Vehicle Act. Citizens facing such issues have been encouraged to report complaints through a dedicated WhatsApp number, enabling quick response by authorities.

To manage crowd movement and traffic congestion, multiple restrictions will be enforced from 11.00 pm to 2.00 am. All flyovers in the city will remain closed except Begumpet and Tolichowki flyovers. In the Hussain Sagar zone, traffic will be restricted on NTR Marg, PVNR Marg Necklace Road, and Tank Bund. The PVNR Expressway will remain accessible only to passengers carrying valid flight tickets.
The police commissioner appealed to the youth to avoid rash driving and triple riding, urging them to celebrate responsibly with family and friends. Emphasizing social responsibility, he also encouraged police personnel to share the spirit of the New Year by visiting orphanages, old age homes, and hospitals, highlighting that true celebration lies in caring for others.
