‘No Academic Day Is Worth A Child’s Life’: Milind Deora urges BMC to close schools amid Mumbai rain red alert

Amid heavy rainfall and a Red Alert in Mumbai, Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora has urged the BMC to close schools and colleges and encourage work from home to ensure public safety during severe weather conditions.

New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha Member Milind Deora today urged the Municipal Commissioner of the BMC to take immediate measures on war footing , in view of heavy rains in the city, keeping in view the public safety and the welfare.

Posting a message on X, Milind Deora personally appealed to Commissioner Smt.Ashwini Bhide to immediately announce the closure of schools and colleges that may have reopened after summer holidays. Deora said no academic day is worth putting the lives of our children and students at risk.

With Munbai is on Red Alert, due to heavy rains and flash floods, Deora pointed out that with trees falling, severe waterlogging and weather related accidents being reported across the city.

He also appealed to employers, wherever feasible, to allow employees to work from home until conditions improve, reducing unnecessary travel and easing pressire on emergency services.

He felt that public safety must come first. Please stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
