No More Irregularities? Banke Bihari Temple Donations Must Go Directly To Treasury, Says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has ordered that every donation received by Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan must go directly into the temple treasury, directing strict transparency after allegations of fund misuse.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued strict directions regarding the management of donations at the famous Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. The court ruled that every donation received through donation boxes or online platforms must be deposited directly into the temple treasury.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana directed the temple management committee to establish a transparent system to ensure proper handling of funds.

SC Warns Against Any Obstruction in Donation Process

During the hearing, the Supreme Court made it clear that any attempt by temple staff, including ‘sevayats’, or anyone else to obstruct the proper collection of donations would be taken seriously.

The court stated that every single donation amount must reach the official temple treasury through authorised channels. The management committee has been instructed to implement mechanisms to prevent irregularities and maintain accountability.

Allegations of Financial Mismanagement Raised

The Supreme Court’s direction came after allegations of financial irregularities related to temple funds were raised during the hearing.

Advocate NK Goswami claimed that large-scale misuse of temple donations had taken place and alleged that crores of rupees were diverted. Senior advocate Maninder Singh also presented submissions before the court, including concerns raised by a high-powered committee monitoring temple affairs.

The committee reportedly highlighted issues related to donation collection practices and the need for stronger monitoring systems.

Temple Committee Asked to Ensure Better Management

The court-appointed management committee has been working on improving administration at the temple, including better control over security arrangements, financial operations and devotee facilities.

Earlier, the committee had decided to restrict the entry of private security personnel accompanying VIP visitors during darshan to prevent inconvenience for devotees.

The temple authorities have also been asked to strengthen surveillance systems, including upgrading CCTV cameras with advanced technology.
