New Delhi: The Indian flag is more than just a flag. It represents the spirit solidarity and selflessness of the nation. First flown at the Red Fort on August 15 1947 it was officially adopted as the nations flag on July 22 1947.

The tricolor is being proudly raised by the countrymen today but it should be treated with the same respect and decency as it is during the Independence Day celebration.

According to the flag code the flag must never be stored in an unclean environment or where there is a risk of it being torn or cut. The tricolor cannot be thrown away like clothing if it is harmed in any way.

It has also been decided how to keep the flag safe. How should the tricolor be folded correctly? Additionally the tricolor can be folded. The proper method is outlined in the flag code. The national flag ought to be maintained with reverence. It should be clearly visible and the highest point. Never fly a flag that is damaged filthy or haphazardly organized. It should be politely replaced if it is broken or damaged.
