New Delhi: The Indian flag is more than just a flag. It represents the spirit solidarity and selflessness of the nation. First flown at the Red Fort on August 15 1947 it was officially adopted as the nations flag on July 22 1947.
The tricolor is being proudly raised by the countrymen today but it should be treated with the same respect and decency as it is during the Independence Day celebration.

Green and saffron stripes should be partially visible. The Indian national flag must now be folded held in the palms and stored in a secure location. According to Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 disrespecting the Indian national flag is not only wrong but also illegal.
Any individual who burns defaces desecrates destroys tramples upon or insults the Indian National Flag in a public setting through words writing or deeds faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison a fine or both. The flag can be raised by any individual private group or educational establishment. So long as its carried out with deference.
The flag can now be flown at night and during the day thanks to a July 2022 amendment. As long it is outside and has adequate light if it is dark. The national flag could only be flown from sunrise to sunset in the past.
The national flag ought to be maintained with reverence. It should be clearly visible and the highest point. Never fly a flag that is damaged filthy or haphazardly organized. It should be politely replaced if it is broken or damaged.
