‘One Nation, one Husband? Punjab CM Mann draws flak on ‘Sindoor’

Chandigarh: “One nation, one husband?”, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s dig at BJP’s “Ghar-Ghar Sindoor abhiyan” drew flak on Tuesday, especially from BJP leaders who alleged that Mann had mocked Operation Sindoor.

Mann, in a press conference, was asked by a journalist about Sindoor being sent to Ludhiana.

He quipped, “What is this scheme? One nation, one husband??”

He termed the BJP’s so-called scheme a joke. He alleged that the BJP was trying to seek votes over Sindoor.

Bye-elections for Ludhiana West assembly seat are scheduled for June 19.

Meanwhile, taking exception to Mann’s jibe, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu said that the nation won’t forgive Mann for the words he has used for the PM.

Haryana Minister and BJP leader Anil Vij, reacting to Mann’s comment, said that Mann, who was a comedian earlier, was “doing comedy in politics”. He said that one should not make comments without grasping the depth of an issue.

Mamata Banerjee Slammed

Apart from Bhagwant Mann, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also tried to corner the BJP on this issue. She said, ‘They named it (Operation Sindoor) for political gains. I did not want to say this because multilateral delegations are presenting India’s side in many countries, but today the Prime Minister came to Bengal and started political propaganda.’ Mamata took a dig at the Prime Minister and said, ‘Earlier he used to call himself a tea seller, then a watchman and now he has come to sell sindoor.’

Pradeep Bhandari

BJP’s national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also attacked CM Mann and called his statement shameful. Sharing a post on social media, Bhandari said that it is very shameful that Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann made fun of Operation Sindoor. He said that once again the opposition has shown its true face. Insulting our armed forces and underestimating a successful military operation. If this sentiment is not anti-India, then what else is it?

BJP Denial

However, BJP denied these reports calling it fake news. On May 30, the Bharatiya Janata Party made it clear in a tweet from its official X account that ‘BJP has not scheduled any program to distribute vermilion door to door.
