New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of using government machinery to protect Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that protesters were being targeted for demanding the poll chief’s resignation.
Speaking at a press conference alongside student activist Neha Bora and actor Prakash Raj, Dipke criticised the restrictions imposed on demonstrations and questioned the detention of protesters in the national capital. His remarks came amid protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for Kumar’s resignation.
Dipke alleged that young protesters and activists were being detained for participating in demonstrations against the Chief Election Commissioner.
“These organisations, all of Delhi’s youth are fighting on the streets. They are being dragged on the streets,” he said, referring to several protesters by name.
He questioned why such action was being taken and alleged that the government was using its resources to protect Gyanesh Kumar.
Dipke described the situation as a “war against its own citizens” and challenged the Centre over the security measures and restrictions surrounding the protests. These remarks reflect the CJP leader’s allegations against the government.
Dipke also criticised the Centre’s proposal for ‘One Nation, One Election’, which seeks to synchronise elections to the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.
Calling it a slogan, he alleged that the government’s actual political objective was “One Nation, One Party”.
He also challenged Prime Minister Modi to declare an Emergency, questioning whether the government had considered how such a step would be viewed internationally.
The remarks marked a broader escalation in Dipke’s criticism of the Centre amid the ongoing protests over the Election Commission.
The press conference took place a day after CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were remanded to judicial custody and sent to Tihar Jail, according to the India Today report.
The detentions came amid heightened security arrangements in Delhi as protesters demanded Kumar’s resignation. The CJP and other groups have criticised restrictions on demonstrations, arguing that they hinder the right to peaceful protest.
Delhi Police had cited procedural requirements and law-and-order concerns while denying permission for the planned protest at Jantar Mantar.
The demonstrations are linked to allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The CJP and opposition leaders have raised concerns about voter-list changes and questioned the Election Commission’s handling of the process.
The Election Commission’s role and the alleged irregularities have become subjects of political and legal scrutiny. The allegations made by Dipke against the Prime Minister and Home Minister remain his claims and should not be treated as independently established facts.
