New Delhi: Pakistan made several attempts to locate India's S-400 air defence systems during Operation Sindoor, including allegedly using intelligence networks, spies and sleeper cells, Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra has claimed.
Speaking during a media interaction, Air Marshal Mishra said Pakistan was "desperate" to find the S-400 systems as they posed a major challenge to its missile and aerial operations during the military action.
According to him, Pakistan used multiple methods, including air intelligence and electronic warfare capabilities, to identify the locations of India's advanced air defence systems.
The Russian-made S-400 'Sudarshan' air defence missile system played a crucial role in India's response during Operation Sindoor. The system helped counter missile threats and strengthen India's air defence capabilities.
"The Pakistanis were desperate to find the S-400s during Operation Sindoor and employed all tricks in the book," Air Marshal Mishra said during an ANI podcast interview.
He further claimed that Pakistan activated intelligence resources inside India to gather information about the deployment of the missile systems.
The Air Marshal also referred to Pakistan's attempts to target Indian air bases during the conflict. He suggested that Pakistan attacked locations based on assumptions about the presence of S-400 systems.
Several Indian Air Force bases, including Adampur, Pathankot, Bathinda and Udhampur, were targeted during the operation, according to reports.
The S-400 is considered one of the world's most advanced long-range air defence systems. It consists of missile launchers, powerful radar systems and command units that work together to detect and neutralise aerial threats.
The system can track and engage multiple targets, including fighter aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missile threats at different ranges and altitudes.
Its ability to intercept threats from long distances makes it a key component of India's air defence network.
India has already approved the acquisition of additional S-400 systems to further strengthen its defence capabilities. The country currently operates multiple units of the system and is expected to receive more deliveries in the future.
The S-400's performance during Operation Sindoor has increased its importance in India's defence strategy amid rising regional security challenges.
