Security forces launched a major search operation after a Pakistani drone was spotted near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on New Year’s Day. The drone reportedly remained inside Indian territory for several minutes before disappearing.

Security Alert in Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistani Drone Intrudes Near LoC
New Delhi: While the country and the world are celebrating the New Year, Pakistan continues its nefarious activities. On New Year's Day, a Pakistani drone incursion was reported in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Following the sighting of the drone near the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been put on high alert, and a search operation is underway in the entire area.
According to reports, the Pakistani drone entered Indian territory near the LoC in the Khadi Karmara area of Poonch. The drone hovered in Indian airspace for more than five minutes. Upon detecting the drone activity, security agencies swung into action, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. Agencies are conducting a thorough investigation into the drone's flight path and its purpose.
Considering the drone incursion a serious security challenge, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a joint search operation. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area, and a close watch is being kept on suspicious activities. Security agencies are trying to ascertain whether the drone was used for espionage or to drop any objectionable material.
This is the second incident of a drone sighting near the India-Pakistan border within the last 24 hours. Earlier, a suspicious drone was spotted in the Phulpur area of Samba district in Jammu. The drone remained in Indian territory for some time before returning. Despite a search operation, no suspicious objects were recovered from the area.
It is noteworthy that recently, the Jammu and Kashmir administration banned the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in some parts of the Union Territory for security reasons. The administration stated that VPNs could be used to threaten national security and spread unrest. The increase in drone activity near the LoC after the VPN ban has become a matter of concern for security agencies.
Following ‘Operation Sindoor’ in May 2025, there was a surge in drone and missile attacks from Pakistan, escalating tensions between the two countries. During that period, Pakistan sent several drones towards the Indian border, which the Indian Army successfully intercepted. Following the current incident, the army remains on high alert and is prepared to counter any potential threat.
