New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to address the Lok Sabha on Thursday and may instead speak in the Rajya Sabha, a day after the Lower House was adjourned minutes before he was scheduled to speak.

The government is planning to secure the passage of the Motion of Thanks in both Houses on the same day, even if normal proceedings in the Lok Sabha do not resume.

Sources also indicated that discussion on the Union Budget is likely to begin in the Lok Sabha today, though uncertainty remains over the smooth conduct of business amid the continuing standoff between the Treasury and the Opposition. Stay tuned to indiatoday.in for the latest updates from the ongoing Budget Session.

The adjournment followed noisy protests by opposition members, which escalated into confrontations near the treasury benches, prompting sharp allegations and counter-allegations from both the ruling and opposition sides.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari claimed that several opposition women MPs entered the well of the House, moved towards the Prime Minister’s chair, and ignored repeated appeals by senior ministers to return to their seats.

According to Tiwari, the Prime Minister could not enter the House as the situation spiralled out of control.
