Srinagar: Authorities have launched an investigation after a pigeon fitted with a plastic ring was found in the Mawa area of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir. The circumstances surrounding the bird’s presence in the border district remain unclear.
According to a report published by News Vibes of India on October 23, local residents found the pigeon and handed it over to the authorities. Police and intelligence agencies were informed, prompting an inquiry into the discovery.
GNS, another news outlet, reported that a pigeon found in Samba was carrying a metal ring, an Urdu note and Pakistani currency. However, the details concerning the note and the currency could not be independently verified for this report.
The differing accounts of the ring and the alleged items found with the bird have left several questions unanswered. Authorities have yet to establish why the pigeon was in the area or whether the ring or any other material had any particular significance.
Samba lies close to the international border with Pakistan, making the discovery a matter of interest for security agencies. However, the available information does not establish any link between the pigeon and espionage or other unlawful activities.
The purpose of the ring, the circumstances in which the bird reached the area and the authenticity of claims about additional materials remain unclear. Any conclusions about a possible security angle would require further investigation and supporting evidence.
