Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s October 17 rally in Haryana’s Sonipat has been postponed. Though no official reason was given, sources cite the recent IPS officer’s suicide and festive season workload as possible causes. Preparations were nearly complete.
PM Modi’s Sonipat Rally Canceled
Haryana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned visit and rally in Sonipat, Haryana, on October 17th has been canceled. The rally was scheduled to commemorate the completion of one year of the state's Deputy Chief Minister's government.
The rally, scheduled to be held at Rai Education City, was considered politically significant but was postponed at the last minute.
Although no official statement has been issued by the government regarding this cancellation, sources suggest two main reasons may be behind this decision.
Haryana CM vows justice in senior IPS Officer Y. Puran Kumar’s tragic death
The first reason is said to be the sensitive atmosphere created by the recent suicide of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar in the state. The second reason is believed to be the busy festive season, which led to the postponement.
Preparations for the rally in Sonipat were almost complete. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini himself visited Rai Education City on Monday evening and reviewed the preparations.
He told the media that Prime Minister Modi has a special affection for Haryana and its people, and this rally will be an opportunity to showcase the government's achievements over the past year.
CM Nayab Saini personally went to Delhi on October 1st to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend this rally. During that time, he also discussed the 'Lado Laxmi Yojana' with the Prime Minister.

The rally was originally scheduled for October 18th in Ambala Cantt, but the date was later changed, and the venue was decided on Sonipat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Haryana 16 times since 2014. He last attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Nayab Saini government on October 17th, 2024. Subsequently, in December 2024 and April 2025, he also attended the inaugurations and foundation stone laying ceremonies of several schemes in various districts of Haryana.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also recently attended events in Rohtak and Kurukshetra on October 3. He inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 19 projects. He also inaugurated an exhibition related to new laws.
The postponement of Prime Minister Modi's visit is a significant development for Haryana politics. It was not only an opportunity to communicate with the public about the state government's plans but was also considered part of the upcoming election strategy.
Although this has not been officially confirmed, the decision appears to have been made considering the current situation and sensitivities.
