Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong attack on the Congress in Assam, accusing the party of neglecting farmers and supporting illegal infiltrators, while highlighting new industrial and agricultural projects aimed at boosting the region’s development.

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a urea plant at the Assam Valley Fertiliser and Chemical Company Limited in Namrup, calling the event a landmark moment for Assam and the entire North-East. He praised the completion of the Ammonia-Urea project, stating that it fulfilled a long-held aspiration of the people in Namrup and Dibrugarh. Modi described the plant as the beginning of a new chapter of industrial growth in the region.
During his address, Modi emphasised the importance of farmers in India’s development and announced upcoming schemes for their welfare. He stressed that the BJP’s government is highly attentive to the needs of the agricultural community and is working to ensure their interests are prioritised. He highlighted the significance of a continuous supply of fertiliser and said the new urea plant will produce 12 lakh metric tonnes annually, improving supply chains and reducing logistics costs. The total investment in the facility is estimated at approximately Rs 11,000 crore.
Turning his attention to the opposition, Modi criticised the previous Congress government for creating challenges that the BJP is still addressing. He stated that several fertiliser factories were shut during Congress rule, causing difficulties for farmers, and that the Namrup centre had lost its former significance due to outdated machinery and neglect. Modi asserted that only under the BJP’s tenure has welfare work for farmers resumed and industrial projects restarted, benefiting the Northeast and the agricultural sector.

The Prime Minister reiterated his claims that the Congress prioritises protecting illegal infiltrators for political gains. He accused the party of disregarding Assam’s interests and the identity of its people in favour of strengthening its vote bank. Modi linked Congress’s opposition to the SIR process with its alleged support for illegal immigrants, stressing the need to safeguard Assam from policies of appeasement.

Modi also criticised Congress for opposing a Bharat Ratna for Assamese artist and politician Bhupen Hazarika. He stated that remarks from the party leadership suggesting the award is being given to singers and dancers insulted Bhupen Hazarika and Assam. He claimed that the opposition consistently undermines regional pride and fails to acknowledge contributions to culture and society.
