New Delhi: Tributes were paid across the country on the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister and the ‘Iron Man of India’. A national-level National Unity Day celebration was held at the ‘Statue of Unity’ complex in Kevadia, Gujarat, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi Pays Tributes

Prime Minister Modi began his visit by paying floral tributes at the colossal statue of Sardar Patel, the Statue of Unity. He then participated in the Unity Day celebrations and reminded the nation of Sardar Patel’s contributions.

He said that it is because of Sardar Patel’s foresight and strong will that India stands today as a strong nation, due to his successful integration of the princely states.

The Prime Minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that India pays tribute to Sardar Patel on his 150th birth anniversary. He was the great architect of India’s unification, and his ideals continue to inspire us.

He said that India is determined to realize Sardar Patel’s dream of a ‘united and self-reliant nation’.

President and Home Minister Also Pay Tributes

Besides the Prime Minister, President Droupadi Murmu and Home Minister Amit Shah also paid floral tributes at Sardar Patel’s statue in New Delhi. ‘Run for Unity’ events and special programs were also organized in various states across the country on Unity Day, aiming to spread the message of national unity and integrity to the masses.

Tributes on Indira Gandhi’s Death Anniversary

This day also held another historical significance, the 41st death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was also observed on October 31st.

On this occasion, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi paid their tributes. Congress workers organized programs across the country remembering her contributions.

Highlights of the Event

Prime Minister Modi was present in Kevadia from 8:20 AM to 12:20 PM. He administered the National Unity Day pledge, which was taken by thousands of people.

During the ceremony, a Unity Parade was organized, which included contingents from the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, and various state police forces. The Prime Minister inspected these parade contingents and addressed them.
