New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uzbekistan marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties as India and Uzbekistan elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During delegation-level talks in Tashkent with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, both sides agreed to expand cooperation across key sectors, including energy, defence, trade, investment and digital connectivity.
A major highlight of the talks was the agreement to establish a long-term arrangement for uranium supplies to India. The move is expected to support India’s growing nuclear energy ambitions and help secure a stable supply of nuclear fuel for future power generation needs.
India has been working to diversify its sources of uranium supply as it expands its nuclear power capacity. Uzbekistan, one of the world’s major uranium producers, has emerged as an important partner in this sector.
The latest agreement builds on previous cooperation between the two nations, including a 2019 contract for the supply of uranium ore concentrate.
