PM Modi Remembers Partition Victims on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day; Amit Shah Attacks Congress Legacy

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to the victims of the Partition of India, remembering the millions of people who suffered during the violence, displacement, and turmoil that followed the division of the country on August 14, 1947.

Since 2021, the central government has been observing August 14 as ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ to honour the memory of those who lost their lives and endured immense suffering during one of the most tragic episodes in India's history.

Sharing a message on X, PM Modi said, “We are observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. It was a moment in history that devastated countless lives and shattered many families.”

The Prime Minister paid tribute to those who survived the horrors of Partition and later contributed significantly to India's development.

He added that their courage, determination, and resilience reflected the strength of the human spirit to overcome even the most difficult circumstances. PM Modi also called for strengthening the values of national unity, harmony, and social cohesion.

Amit Shah: Partition Pain Is Congress’ Legacy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the suffering caused by Partition remains a painful chapter associated with the Congress party's legacy.

In a post on X, Shah stated that history would never forget the tragedy of Partition, in which millions of people lost their lives and many families were forced to leave their homes.

He paid tribute to all those who lost their lives and those who faced atrocities during the period, saying that Partition Horrors Remembrance Day aims to keep the memories of the tragedy alive among younger generations.

Shah said the initiative serves as a reminder that forces attempting to divide the country should never succeed and that the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ should remain the nation's guiding principle.

BJP Leaders Remember Partition Victims

BJP National President Nitin Nabin also paid tribute to the victims of Partition, stating that political decisions and policy failures during that period caused immense damage to India's unity and integrity.

He said Partition Horrors Remembrance Day reminds citizens that national interest must always remain supreme and that building a united India is the true tribute to those who suffered.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda described Partition as a tragedy whose impact is still visible among many families even today. He said the division of the country on religious lines caused widespread violence, hatred, and displacement.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also termed Partition a “horrific chapter” in India's history and remembered the pain and sacrifices of those affected.
