New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with India’s Asian Games 2026 contingent at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday, October 15. The programme is expected to begin around 4:30 pm, with the Prime Minister also set to address the gathering. Athletes, coaches, support staff, Indian Olympic Association representatives, officials from National Sports Federations and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports officials are expected to attend the event.
The interaction comes after India secured fourth place in the overall medal standings at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, finishing with 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.
India’s performance delivered its second-highest medal count in Asian Games history, behind the record-breaking 106 medals won at Hangzhou in 2023. The latest tally reflects India’s growing presence across a wide range of sports, with athletes producing significant results in archery, hockey, athletics, golf, weightlifting and wrestling. The Indian contingent’s achievements also included landmark performances in recurve archery, while both the men’s and women’s hockey teams secured gold medals at the same edition of the Games.
Indian archers enjoyed a standout campaign, winning nine medals, including five gold medals in archery overall. The compound teams swept all three team titles, while the mixed team victory by Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav secured an LA 2028 Olympic quota, according to the supplied report. The recurve team also recorded its strongest Asian Games performance in the discipline, winning medals across all five events. Kumkum Mohod claimed the women’s individual gold, with another Olympic quota secured for LA 2028.
India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams also won gold in the same Games, adding to the country’s memorable campaign.
Athletics emerged as India’s biggest medal-producing sport, contributing 24 medals despite the country winning only one gold in the discipline. The performance highlighted India’s strength across track and field events.
India also secured a silver medal in weightlifting, ending a 28-year wait for an Asian Games medal in the sport. In Greco-Roman wrestling, an Indian wrestler reached the final for the first time in 64 years, earning another silver medal.
Indian golfer Pranavi Urs made history by winning the women’s individual gold medal, becoming the first Indian woman to claim an individual Asian Games golf title. Her victory ended India’s 24-year wait for an Asian Games gold in golf. Urs later teamed up with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to secure silver in the women’s team event, marking another milestone for Indian golf.
The interaction is expected to recognise the athletes, coaches and support teams behind India’s medal-winning campaign. Their performances across established and emerging sporting disciplines have strengthened India’s ambitions for future international competitions, including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
