PM Modi launches GST savings festival
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a special open letter to the countrymen on the launch of the "GST Savings Festival." In this letter, he explained that the new GST reforms, which will come into effect on 22 September, will benefit every section of the country. PM Modi said that this will not only bring relief to businesses and industries, but will also make everyday items cheaper for ordinary citizens.
The Prime Minister explained that the highlight of the new GST reforms is that there will now be only two main tax rates. Essential food items, medicines, soap, toothpaste, and many other items will be available at either 0% (zero) or 5%. Furthermore, tax rates have been reduced on most home and family-related goods and services. He also stated that new insurance plans will now be GST-free, reducing their costs.
PM Modi also mentioned that many shopkeepers have installed "Before and Now" signs in their stores, letting customers know the difference in prices. He explained that since the implementation of GST in 2017, the government has provided relief to businesses by eliminating several taxes, and this new reform will further strengthen this.

The Prime Minister said that in the last 11 years, 250 million people have come out of poverty and the middle class has expanded. The government has provided income tax exemptions of over ₹12 lakh crore to empower the middle class. The new GST reforms will result in annual savings of approximately ₹2.5 lakh crore, directly benefiting the middle class and the poor.
PM Modi also strongly appealed to adopt Swadeshi products. He said that when we buy products from the country's artisans and industries, we provide employment to the country's youth and help families earn a living. He urged shopkeepers to sell only indigenous goods and thus strengthen the Self-Reliant India campaign.
On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, the Prime Minister wished the countrymen a "GST Savings Festival" and expressed hope that this festival will bring new momentum to the country's development. He said that this festival will increase the savings of the countrymen, fulfill their dreams, and double the joy of festivals.
