New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed confidence that the 18th BRICS Summit will witness meaningful and constructive discussions focused on global welfare as leaders from across the world gather here.
Ahead of the two-day summit, PM Modi said that the conference would provide an opportunity for leaders to discuss important international issues with the aim of promoting cooperation and shared progress.
In a message shared on social media, Prime Minister Modi said he was confident that the BRICS Summit would lead to positive and meaningful discussions on various issues concerning the world.
The summit, hosted by India, is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in areas such as food security, energy stability, healthcare, disaster management and critical supply chains.
New Delhi is presenting BRICS as an important platform for emerging economies to work together amid growing global uncertainties.
The presence of major powers has increased the diplomatic significance of the summit, with discussions expected on global economic cooperation and international challenges.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Delhi on Friday for a three-day visit to attend the BRICS Summit and hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders are expected to discuss areas including defence cooperation, energy, trade, technology and investment.
Putin’s visit marks his first physical participation in a BRICS summit outside Russia since the Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022.

Around 15,000 Delhi Police personnel, 200 companies of paramilitary forces and over 500 CCTV cameras have been deployed to ensure security during the summit.
