Baramulla road issue
Baramulla: The deteriorating condition of the Faqir Bagh–Chandoosa road in north Kashmir's Baramulla district has become a major cause of concern, with residents, transporters, school bus operators, and daily commuters expressing anguish over what they describe as years of official neglect. The road, which serves as a crucial link connecting Baramulla town with the revered shrine of Baba Reshi and several adjoining villages, has reportedly become increasingly unsafe for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Residents said the road is riddled with deep potholes, uneven surfaces, and damaged stretches, making daily travel difficult and hazardous. They alleged that despite repeated appeals to the concerned authorities, no substantial repair or maintenance work has been undertaken. According to locals, the worsening condition of the road has not only disrupted transportation but has also become a constant source of inconvenience for thousands of people who depend on it every day.

Transporters operating on the route said the damaged road has led to frequent vehicle breakdowns, increased maintenance expenses, and longer travel times. They added that commercial transport services have been adversely affected, placing an additional financial burden on drivers and vehicle owners.
School bus operators and parents also voiced serious concern, saying that hundreds of students travel on this road every day under unsafe conditions. They warned that the deteriorating infrastructure poses a significant risk to the lives of school children and could result in a tragic accident if immediate corrective measures are not taken.
Expressing strong resentment, residents blamed the National Conference-led government and the concerned MLA Baramulla for what they described as the prolonged neglect of this vital public road. They alleged that repeated public representations and requests have failed to translate into concrete action, leaving people to suffer despite the road's importance for connectivity, education, tourism, and local economic activity.
The residents urged the government, the district administration, and the concerned departments to immediately sanction and undertake comprehensive repair and macadamisation of the Faqir Bagh–Chandoosa road. They demanded that the restoration work be taken up on a priority basis before the onset of further deterioration and before any major accident claims innocent lives.
Appealing for urgent intervention, the locals said that safe and reliable road infrastructure is a basic public necessity and expressed hope that the authorities would respond promptly to their long-pending demand and restore the road without further delay.
