Rahul Gandhi citizenship case transferred from Rae Bareli to Lucknow

The Karnataka resident who filed the case against Rahul Gandhi claimed to be facing a threat to his life and said he had received threats twice.

Lucknow: The case concerning the alleged dual citizenship of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP from Raebareli, will now be heard in a special court in Lucknow. Vignesh Shishir from Karnataka had filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, alleging death threats and seeking the transfer of the case from Raebareli. After hearing the petition, the court ordered the transfer of the case to Lucknow.

The Karnataka resident who filed the case against Rahul Gandhi claimed to be facing a threat to his life and said he had received threats twice. Vignesh Shishir from Karnataka has challenged Rahul Gandhi's citizenship and had also filed a petition in Raebareli, the constituency from which Rahul Gandhi is an MP.

After hearing the case in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday, a single-judge bench of Justice Brijraj Singh ordered the transfer of the case against Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli to Lucknow. The case concerning Rahul Gandhi's alleged dual citizenship will now be heard in a special court in Lucknow.

S. Vignesh Shishir had filed the petition in the Lucknow bench. Vignesh Shishir has filed a case regarding Rahul Gandhi's alleged British citizenship, which was being heard in a special court in Raebareli. Vignesh Shishir had cited a threat to his life in Raebareli and also expressed apprehension about not receiving a fair trial there. The High Court transferred the case citing security reasons.
