New Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, met ‘Mohammad’ Deepak, also known as Deepak Kumar, in Delhi on Monday. Deepak had travelled from Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, following recent controversy surrounding his name during protests by certain Hindu groups in Kotdwar.
The protests were reportedly linked to demands for removing the word “Baba” from the name of a Muslim elder’s shop, during which Deepak’s name surfaced in public discussions. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had praised Deepak for what he described as a positive and courageous initiative.
After the meeting, Deepak Kumar spoke to the media, saying that Rahul Gandhi appreciated his efforts and encouraged him not to be afraid. According to Deepak, the Congress leader also assured him that he would visit his gym in Kotdwar and take up its membership.
“I have nothing to do with politics. I am just a common man,” Deepak said, emphasizing that his actions were not politically motivated.
