Weather conditions across North India have changed significantly with rain, snowfall, and strong winds lowering temperatures. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rainfall throughout the week due to active western disturbances.
IMD Forecasts Week-Long Rainfall
New Delhi: The weather has taken a turn once again in North-West India.. Several states, including Delhi-NCR, experienced scattered rain, strong winds, and hailstorms at some places on Monday. Meanwhile, high-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh experienced heavy snowfall, bringing down temperatures and providing relief from the heat.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather in northwest India will remain unstable throughout the week due to two active western disturbances. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain and strong winds of 30-50 kmph are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Heavy rain is also possible in some areas on April 4.

Snowfall was recorded in Atal Tunnel Rohtang and other high-altitude areas in Himachal Pradesh. Hailstorms in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra have damaged apple, wheat, and pea crops. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and hailstorms for Tuesday. The inclement weather disrupted power supply in Chamba, leading to blackouts in hundreds of villages.
The rain and hailstorm have increased farmers' concerns. Damage to wheat, gram, and other Rabi crops is feared. Strong winds could also damage trees and power lines, disrupting power supply.
Heavy rain alerts have been issued for several states in Northeast India - Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura. Waterlogging and flood-like conditions are expected in some areas. Light to moderate rain is expected to continue in South India.

Due to this change in weather, temperatures in North India have dropped by 2-4 degrees Celsius. This has brought back coolness, while heat remains in some parts of the country. The period of rain, storm and hailstorm may continue in the coming days also.
