Jaipur: Violence erupted suddenly in Chomu, a town near Jaipur after a dispute between two communities over the removal of stones near a religious site.

Chomu Gripped In Violence
A dispute over the removal of stones lying outside a mosque near the bus stand in Chomu, Jaipur, led to tensions in the area around midnight.
Police used tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Senior police officers also arrived at the scene during the incident.
Internet Services Suspended
Internet services have been temporarily suspended in Chomu from 7:00 AM on December 26th to 7:00 AM on December 27th. This step has been taken to help de-escalate the situation.

According to press reports, stones had been lying on the roadside near the religious site for about 45 years. The stones were being removed as part of an effort to improve traffic management in Chomu, which led to the tense situation in the area.
The administration had also spoken to representatives of the communities involved in the incident. The administration began the work of removing the stones only after reaching a mutual agreement.
The work of removing the stones in this area of Chomu had been completed. However, as soon as the work of installing railings began, some people objected and started protesting. This protest then turned violent.
As a result, mob went out of control and started pelting stones at the police. To control the unruly mob, the Police used tear gas shells. After that the crowd got dispersed.
Situation Under Control
According to reports the situation is under control. But as a precautionary measure, heavy Police contingent has been deoloyed in the area.
In the mean time, the district administration has appealed to the people not to pay any heed to the rumours and try to maintain peace and harmony.
