Tiruchi Siva filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday in the presence of MK Stalin, president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Another DMK nominee, J Constandine Ravindran, submitted his nomination papers in the presence of Stalin along with DMK legislature party leader K Pitchandi, Communist Party of India leader M Veerapandian and Durai Vaiko of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).
From the opposition camp, M Thambi Durai of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) filed his nomination in the presence of party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and senior leaders Dindigul C Sreenivasan and SP Velumani.
Anbumani Ramadoss, president of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), who is contesting with the backing of the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), also filed his nomination in the presence of AIADMK leaders KP Munusamy, Natham R Viswanathan and P Thangamani.
Thambi Durai is a former Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha and a senior AIADMK leader, while Anbumani Ramadoss earlier served as Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the central government.
The DMK had on Wednesday announced Tiruchi Siva and J Constandine Ravindran as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. As part of its alliance arrangement, the DMK has allotted one seat each to the Indian National Congress and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).
The Congress on Thursday named M Christopher Tilak, AICC secretary, as its candidate, while the DMDK nominated LK Sudhish. Both are expected to file their nomination papers later in the day.
