New Delhi: Ahead of Raksha Bandhan celebrations, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has announced additional Namo Bharat train services to handle the expected increase in passenger demand. A total of 47 extra trips will operate on the Delhi-Meerut corridor on August 27 and 28, 2026.

Namo Bharat Trains To Run Every 8 Minutes

With the additional services, Namo Bharat trains will be available at an interval of just eight minutes on both festive days. The enhanced operations will cover the entire corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut.

The move is aimed at providing smoother travel options for passengers heading home to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with their families.

Festive Rush Expected On Delhi-Meerut Route

Raksha Bandhan usually witnesses a sharp rise in passenger movement as people travel to meet their relatives. The additional Namo Bharat services are expected to benefit women travelling to meet their brothers, along with families carrying children and luggage.

Officials said increased frequency will reduce waiting time and make festive travel more comfortable for commuters.

Namo Bharat Offers Alternative To Road Travel

The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor connects major areas including Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut, providing a faster and more convenient alternative to road transportation.

NCRTC said passenger demand will continue to be monitored during the festive period, and additional services may be introduced if required.

UP Government Also Announces Free Bus Travel For Women

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced free bus travel for women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The free travel facility will be available from 6 AM on August 27 to midnight on August 29. Women passengers travelling on Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses will also be allowed one companion with a free ticket.

The combined measures by NCRTC and the Uttar Pradesh government are aimed at making festive travel easier for passengers during the Raksha Bandhan period.
