SC seeks Ram Mandir donation theft report
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday heard the plea, a status report from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and said it would hear the case on next week.
A batch of petitions seeking a court-monitored CBI investigation into the matter.
The CJI observed that since an SIT had already been constituted and the investigation was underway, the court wanted to examine the progress made so far before considering further reliefs sought by the petitioners.
The Solicitor General informed the court that the status report would be filed in a sealed cover.
When the petitioners sought a copy of the report, the Solicitor General opposed the request. The Chief Justice remarked, "You know the law... Eventually they will see the report".
A three-judge Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana is expected to take up the petitions. The pleas have been filed by advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami, lawyers Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav, and RJD MP Sudhakar Singh.
The petitions seek a court-monitored or Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the alleged misappropriation of temple donations. One of the pleas has also requested an audit of the Trust’s finances by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
The petitioners have requested the preservation of physical documents, bank statements, digital ledgers, UPI transaction records, CCTV footage and other material linked to donations and valuable offerings.
