New Delhi: The political atmosphere surrounding the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections is heating up. Amidst this, Samajwadi Party (SP) National President and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav made a bold claim on Monday, April 6, 2026, asserting that a Samajwadi government is set to be formed in the elections scheduled for next year. He stated that this is precisely why signs of unease are visible among BJP leaders.
Akhilesh Yadav declared that the Samajwadi Party is following the path laid out by Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's Constitution, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia's principles, and Netaji Mulayam Singh Yadav's struggles. He stated: "Samajwadis stand firm and fight resolutely against injustice. To save the Constitution and democracy, the Samajwadis and the PDA—comprising the Backward Classes, Dalits, and Minorities—will fight together."
In a statement issued from the SP headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav stated that his objective is to bring about a speedy end to the ongoing war. He argued that the country's economy is suffering due to the conflict. He remarked:
"Once the war ends, our economy will improve. Long queues are forming for gas cylinders. The BJP government is capable of providing only empty cylinders, not filled ones."
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that petrol and diesel prices would witness a hike once the elections conclude. He also noted that instances of theft involving fertilizers and gas cylinders are coming to light. Yadav accused the BJP government of being complicit in increasing the economic burden on the public.
The SP chief stated that the party is actively preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections. He set a target of winning all three assembly seats in Kannauj. Furthermore, he accused the BJP of conspiring in collusion with the Election Commission.
The SP President also addressed the issues of women's rights and reservation. He asserts that the party is working towards granting women respect and rights, whereas the BJP government is failing to properly implement reservation policies.
