Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 80th Independence Day address from the Red Fort outlined a roadmap for India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. At the centre of this vision is Saptadhara's seven key pillars that represent India’s growth potential, self-reliance and global aspirations.
The seven pillars cover major areas including manufacturing, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, defence, green energy and India’s cultural influence. PM Modi said these streams of strength can help India become more competitive, innovative and self-reliant on the global stage.
Manufacturing is the first pillar of Saptadhara. PM Modi stressed the need for India to expand its manufacturing ecosystem and become an important part of global supply chains.
He highlighted the importance of producing not just finished products but also critical components within the country. The focus, he said, should be on improving quality, reducing costs and achieving global-scale production.
The second pillar focuses on India’s farmers and agricultural sector. PM Modi described agriculture as a key driver of India’s future growth.
The vision aims to strengthen the farming ecosystem, improve food security and empower farmers as important contributors to India’s self-reliant economy.
Technology and innovation form the third pillar of Saptadhara. PM Modi highlighted India’s success with digital platforms like UPI and called for greater progress in emerging technologies.
He said India must become a global hub for artificial intelligence, robotics, data centres and next-generation technologies, including Made-in-India 6G networks.
The fourth pillar, Gati Shakti, focuses on improving infrastructure and connectivity across the country.
PM Modi emphasised the need for better roads, expressways and logistics networks to boost economic activity, strengthen businesses and improve India’s competitiveness in global trade.
Defence capability is the fifth pillar of the vision. PM Modi called for expanding domestic defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports.
He highlighted the importance of new-age defence technologies such as drones and counter-drone systems to strengthen India’s security capabilities.
Green energy is the sixth pillar of Saptadhara. PM Modi stressed the need for innovation in renewable energy to meet India’s growing power requirements while protecting the environment.
The focus is on achieving energy security through cleaner sources and creating a sustainable growth model for the future.
The seventh pillar highlights India’s cultural strength and global influence. PM Modi pointed to yoga, handicrafts, films, animation, gaming, digital content and tourism as important areas of India’s soft power.
He said India’s cultural heritage and creative industries can become major contributors to economic growth and strengthen the country’s global identity.
Together, the seven pillars of Saptadhara represent an integrated vision for India’s future — combining economic growth, technological advancement, defence strength, environmental responsibility and cultural influence.
The framework aligns with PM Modi’s larger goal of transforming India into a developed, self-reliant and globally influential nation by 2047, when the country completes 100 years of Independence.
