Scorpio breaches security checkpoint in Chanderkote area of Jammu and Kashmir, caught while fleeing towards Nashri along the strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Ramban: Security agencies were placed on high alert in Ramban district after a Scorpio vehicle allegedly breached a security checkpoint in the Chanderkote area and fled towards Nashri along the strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway. The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday at around 3:30 am when security personnel deployed at the Chanderkote naka attempted to stop the vehicle for routine checking. According to officials, the driver allegedly ignored the security instructions and accelerated the vehicle towards the Nashri side instead of stopping at the checkpoint.
Following the suspected security breach, personnel opened fire in an attempt to stop the fleeing vehicle. Officials said three rounds were fired after the vehicle failed to respond to repeated signals from security personnel. Immediately after the incident, a coordinated search operation was launched in the surrounding areas to trace the vehicle and identify the persons involved.
The search operation involved multiple security agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indian Army. Security teams intensified surveillance along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and adjoining areas, considering the strategic importance of the route and its sensitivity from a security perspective. The highway remains a crucial connectivity route between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley and witnesses significant movement of security forces, civilians and pilgrims, especially during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra period.
In the latest development, security officials confirmed that the Scorpio vehicle was traced and seized near Dalwas. The recovery of the vehicle has provided investigators with important leads to determine the circumstances behind the incident and identify the individuals linked to it. Security agencies are conducting a detailed examination of the vehicle and collecting relevant evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials are analysing various aspects, including the identity of the vehicle owner, movement details and the reason behind the driver’s attempt to evade the checkpoint.
Authorities have not confirmed any connection between the vehicle and terrorist or militant activities at this stage. Officials said further investigation is underway and more details will emerge after a complete assessment of the available evidence. Security agencies are maintaining a cautious approach due to the sensitive security environment of the Jammu region and the importance of preventing any possible threat along the highway corridor.
The incident has led to increased security arrangements in Ramban and nearby areas, with additional monitoring being carried out along vulnerable points on NH-44. Security forces have been keeping strict surveillance on vehicle movement and conducting checks at important locations to ensure the safety of commuters and pilgrims travelling through the region.
The Jammu-Srinagar corridor has remained a key focus area for security agencies due to its strategic importance and heavy movement during the pilgrimage season. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues and security agencies gather more information regarding the vehicle and the circumstances that led to the checkpoint breach.
