Srinagar: Security has been stepped up across Srinagar ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with intensified frisking and vehicle and pedestrian checks reported at several locations in the city.
Security personnel have increased checking at major entry points, busy intersections and other important locations as part of precautionary measures ahead of the national event.
Commuters were seen undergoing additional security checks, while vehicles were being stopped and checked at various points. The enhanced checking has also led to slow movement of traffic at some busy stretches.
The measures come ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, with preparations for the August 15 events being reviewed by the administration and concerned departments. Security, traffic management, venue arrangements, emergency services and coordination among agencies form part of the preparations.
The increased security presence is aimed at ensuring peaceful and incident-free Independence Day celebrations in the Valley. People have been advised to cooperate with security personnel during checking and make necessary allowances for possible delays while travelling.
Security agencies have maintained heightened vigilance across Srinagar and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the run-up to August 15, with surveillance and preventive security measures being strengthened as part of the overall preparedness.
