Shashi Tharoor lamented the political landscape in which “everyone has to be ideologically purist, (and) no one will see merit in the other side or talk to anyone from the other side.”
Shashi Tharoor clarifies he didn't praise PM Modi
New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently praised PM Modi's speech, causing unease within the Congress camp. This drew sharp reactions from party members. Congress leaders even criticized Tharoor. Now, Tharoor has clarified his position in a response.
In fact, during a media event in Dubai, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, "Today's politics has become so polarized that even a neutral comment is viewed with suspicion."
Referring to his previous post on PM Modi's speech, he said, "I described the speech as an economic vision and a cultural call." "I didn't say a single word of praise, I just described it. Yet, it was taken as a compliment to the PM." This is the same atmosphere that prevails in our country, where everyone wants to be ideologically purist, but nothing comes of it."
One has to be ideologically purist
Shashi Tharoor lamented the political landscape in which "everyone has to be ideologically purist, (and) no one will see merit in the other side or talk to anyone from the other side."
How will you get anything done?
The Kerala MP argued, "People are only interested in 'ideological purity'... but you can't get things done that way. Someone won the election and formed the government. You won in your state and formed the government. But if you don't cooperate with the central government, how will you get anything done?"
Congress Calls It Nonsense
It's worth noting that the rift between Shashi Tharoor and the Congress dates back to 2022, when he wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi demanding a change in leadership. Meanwhile, last week, he praised PM Modi's speech, which two Congress leaders, Supriya Shrinate and Sandeep Dixit, called nonsense.
Meanwhile, Tharoor's relations with the Congress central leadership are widely seen to be thawing after a series of comments praising the Prime Minister and the ruling BJP.
