New Delhi: Bangladesh's former Prime Pinister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has expressed concern over the existing political and security scenario of the nation, alleging that Bangladesh might soon become a "failed state" and will pose a threat to regional stability.

Addressing virtually from Maryland, United States, at an event organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in New Delhi, Joy said that there has been an increase in the activity of foreign intelligence agencies such as Pakistan's ISI in Bangladesh.

Security Threats Increasing From Bangladesh, Said Joy

Joy alleged that the organizations involved in extremism are increasing their activities in Bangladesh, and stated that the terrorists arrested by the government of Awami League are being released.

Joy also alleged that the organizations that are banned are now seen increasing and stated that people from global terror organizations are addressing public meetings.

According to Joy, these developments are a matter of concern for India.

Bangladesh May Spawn ‘Next Generation Of Terrorists’

In his speech, Joy mentioned that if this problem is not sorted out, then the country may end up being a place where future terrorists will come from.

Joy called upon the international community and Indian media to watch carefully what happens in Bangladesh, since the whole problem was not only political in nature.

Political Tensions Persist Following Hasina’s Removal From Power

His comments were made in the wake of the ousting of Sheikh Hasina from power in 2024 amid massive unrest in Bangladesh.

He denounced the present political atmosphere by saying that there is persecution of Awami League members, and democracy has been compromised.

Furthermore, he expressed his concerns regarding the deaths of those who took part in the protests.
