New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear next week a plea challenging the functioning of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and raising questions over decisions related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The petition seeks judicial scrutiny of the decision-making process within the Election Commission of India and has raised concerns over whether major decisions were taken in accordance with the statutory framework governing the poll body.

Plea Raises Questions Over Election Commission Functioning

The matter was mentioned before the Supreme Court, following which the court agreed for an early hearing. The petitioner has questioned the manner in which decisions related to SIR were taken and argued that the Election Commission functions as a multi-member body.

The plea has sought directions related to the authority and functioning of the CEC, including a challenge to decisions allegedly taken without collective approval of the commission.
