Sonam Wangchuk Can Be Shifted to Medanta (Img: X)
New Delhi: The Centre on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that it has no objection to shifting activist Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, provided the transfer is recommended by doctors.
The submission was made by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta during the hearing of an appeal filed by Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, challenging an earlier order that declined to direct his transfer.

Appearing for the Centre, Mehta said the government had no objection to Wangchuk being shifted to Medanta. However, he argued that the discharge should be based on medical advice rather than Wangchuk's personal request.
The Centre maintained that any decision regarding the transfer should be guided entirely by doctors to ensure Wangchuk's health and safety.
During the proceedings, the Solicitor General also expressed concern that some people around Wangchuk were allegedly trying to move him out of the hospital without giving adequate importance to his medical condition.
The hearing was attended by one of Wangchuk's treating doctors as the court examined issues relating to his health.

After hearing submissions from all sides, the Division Bench reserved its order and said it would pronounce its decision later in the day.
Wangchuk is currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital after being admitted during his indefinite hunger strike linked to the NEET-UG controversy. According to the latest medical bulletin, he remains under the care of a multidisciplinary team and his vital parameters are stable, though he continues to be closely monitored.
