On Sunday when a large number of devotees had reached the Mansa Devi Temple. For the last few days, there has been a huge crowd in Haridwar on the auspicious occasion of Kanwar Yatra and Shravan. The narrow road which was earlier kept closed by the administration during the fair, was being used to send devotees through the same road despite the huge crowd, where this accident happened.
Since the Jalabhishek ceremony on July 23, the number of devotees and Kanwariyas visiting Haridwar has seen a significant surge. The weekend crowd on Saturday and Sunday further added to the influx, with a sharp rise in the number of general devotees. Every day, thousands of pilgrims from across the country visit the Mansa Devi temple for darshan. However, the tragic incident is being largely attributed to lapses in crowd management.
The injured have been admitted to the Haridwar District Hospital for treatment. The administration has announced financial assistance for the families of those who lost their lives. Police personnel, SDRF teams, and local volunteers have been actively deployed to carry out relief and rescue efforts at the site.
