New Delhi: Indian equity markets closed higher on 9 February, supported by optimism over a US trade deal.
The Sensex jumped 460 points, while the Nifty closed firmly above the 25,850 mark, reflecting broad-based buying across sectors.
On the Nifty 50, State Bank of India, Shriram Finance, Tata Steel, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Hindalco Industries emerged as the top gainers.
Meanwhile, Max Healthcare, Power Grid Corporation, ITC, ICICI Bank, and Nestle India were among the laggards.
The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 1 percent and the Smallcap index gaining 2 percent.
Sectorally, all indices ended in positive territory. Media, consumer durables, realty, PSU banking, and metal stocks led the rally, advancing between 1 and 3 percent.
