IMD's 'Orange Alert'

In view of the prevailing conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange Alert.' This signifies that people need to remain vigilant and prepared, as the adverse weather conditions could disrupt normal life.

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall, intense thunder, and winds gusting at speeds of 40–50 km/h—potentially reaching up to 60 km/h—are expected over the next few hours.

The Impact of Strong Winds

  • Strong winds swept across several parts of the capital.
  • At Pragati Maidan, wind speeds reached up to 68 km/h.
  • At Pusa, speeds touched 65 km/h.
  • Strong winds were also recorded in Palam, Lodhi Road, Naraina, and Pitampura.
  • These strong winds clearly demonstrated the full force of the storm across the city.

Impact on Flights and Power Supply

At the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport), the routes of at least 16 flights had to be diverted. Additionally, strong winds caused power outages in several areas, disrupting daily operations and activities.

IMD's Advisory

The IMD has issued the following essential advisories for the public:

  • Stay indoors.
  • Stay away from vulnerable structures and trees.
  • Maintain a safe distance from electric poles and power lines.
  • If driving, pull over and take shelter in a safe location.
  • Farmers have also been advised to temporarily suspend their work and move their livestock to safe locations.

What Lies Ahead?

This shift in weather patterns is expected to persist for the next few days. The rain and strong winds will lead to a drop in temperature, offering residents some relief from the heat.
