Bandipora: On Sunday, a suspicious object was discovered along the Sopore-Bandipora road near Mangnipora Kehmah, prompting an immediate security response in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Bandipora police and personnel from the 27 Assam Rifles rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure. A bomb disposal squad was deployed to inspect the object while security arrangements were strengthened in the surrounding region.

Area Sealed, Civilians Barred

Authorities strictly prohibited civilians from entering the affected stretch, completely sealing off the area to ensure public safety. Traffic along the road was halted, and commuters were advised to avoid the route. Temporary diversions were implemented to manage movement while the security forces carried out their operations.

Tight Surveillance Maintained

Security officials have maintained constant surveillance over the area, ensuring that no unauthorized personnel enter the cordoned zone. Residents and travellers have been urged to stay calm and avoid spreading rumours, as the bomb disposal squad conducts a thorough examination of the suspicious object.

Previous Incident in Sopore

This is not the first time a suspicious object has raised alarms in north Kashmir. On Friday, another object was spotted along the Srinagar–Baramulla National Highway near Hygam in the Sopore area. Security forces, including the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, immediately responded by sealing the area and halting traffic to prevent any potential threat.

The bomb disposal squad later examined and safely destroyed the object after ensuring no risk to civilians or property. These incidents highlight the continued vigilance required in the region to prevent any untoward incidents.

Heightened Security Following Terrorist Sighting

The alert in Bandipora comes shortly after a major security operation in Anantnag district, where Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammad Latif was spotted at a local market. Security forces, including Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF personnel, launched a coordinated operation to apprehend him.

Officials confirmed that Latif, who joined the terror outfit in November, managed to escape into a nearby forested area before being surrounded. Search operations have been intensified across adjoining terrains, and security agencies remain on high alert as the hunt for the terrorist continues.

Authorities Urge Calm

Amid these repeated security alerts, authorities have urged residents and commuters to remain calm, follow official advisories, and avoid spreading unverified information. The coordinated efforts of police, paramilitary forces, and bomb disposal squads have been crucial in neutralizing potential threats while maintaining public safety.
