Srinagar: Human rights activist and ATVK Chairperson Tasleema Akhter has strongly condemned the alleged threats issued against Kashmiri Pandits, saying that such attempts will not be able to disturb peace and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reacting to the alleged threat issued by the United Liberation Council (ULC), Akhter said she neither recognises nor considers any such organisation legitimate, adding that intimidation tactics cannot frighten the people of the Valley.
“I strongly condemn such attempts to threaten the Kashmiri Pandits. These kinds of statements are meant to create fear among a particular community. I do not recognise this organisation as any legitimate group, but such threats will not be able to frighten the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Akhter said.
Akhter said India has both the will and capability to take action against individuals and organisations involved in spreading fear and issuing threats.

She highlighted that people across Jammu and Kashmir have shown strong support for peace, brotherhood and communal harmony, and stressed that such attempts to create divisions must be collectively opposed.
“There has been a huge expression of support for peace, harmony and brotherhood from across Jammu and Kashmir. Such attempts to threaten and intimidate people must be countered together,” she said.
The activist said Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a new phase where peace, coexistence and development should remain the main objectives.
“We are witnessing a new Jammu and Kashmir, and peace, harmony and coexistence must be our prime objective. Such statements should not be allowed to divide society or disturb the peace created after years of turmoil,” Akhter added.
She also appealed to people not to get provoked by such statements and urged citizens to maintain calm. “People of Jammu and Kashmir want peace and prosperity. Any kind of threats and intimidation will not shake Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
