New Delhi: President of India Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 48 outstanding school teachers at a special ceremony to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5, 2026. The event will mark Teachers Day 2026, celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

During the ceremony, short documentaries highlighting the achievements, innovations and contributions of each award-winning teacher will also be showcased.

The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, organises the national-level event every year to honour teachers who have made exceptional contributions towards improving school education and transforming the lives of students.

48 Teachers Selected Through Three-Stage Process

The awardees were selected through a transparent and rigorous three-stage selection process conducted at the district, state and national levels.

The online self-nomination process for eligible teachers was conducted from June 15 to July 20, 2026, through the Ministry of Education’s National Awards to Teachers portal.

This year, the selected 48 teachers represent 27 states, 7 Union Territories and 6 organisations under the Central Government. Among the award recipients, 26 are male teachers and 22 are female teachers.

National Teachers Awards Aim to Celebrate Excellence

The National Teachers Awards recognise educators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation and commitment in the field of education.

The awards aim to celebrate teachers who have not only enhanced the quality of classroom learning but have also contributed to the overall development and success of their students.

Event to Be Telecast Live

The Teachers Day 2026 award ceremony will be broadcast live on Doordarshan and the SWAYAM PRABHA channels of the Ministry of Education. Viewers can also watch the programme through the Ministry of Education’s live webcast platform and official social media channels.

The list of selected awardees has been released by the Ministry of Education and is not arranged according to any order of merit.
