Big Political Shock in Telangana: 22 BRS Leaders Suspended From Assembly Session
Hyderabad: A major political confrontation erupted in Telangana Assembly on Wednesday after Speaker suspended 22 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs for the remaining Monsoon Session over alleged disruption of proceedings.
The suspension has intensified the ongoing clash between the ruling Congress government and the main opposition BRS, with both sides locked in a political battle inside and outside the Assembly over issues including alleged police action, law and order and opposition rights.
The suspended legislators include senior BRS leaders KT Rama Rao, Harish Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Kova Lakshmi and several other party MLAs.
The controversy unfolded on the third day of the Telangana Assembly Monsoon Session when BRS legislators disrupted proceedings by raising slogans inside the House.
According to reports, BRS MLAs entered the well of the Assembly while demanding attention to their concerns. They raised slogans including demands for justice and attempted to highlight alleged action by police against BRS women legislators.
Earlier, the opposition party had moved an adjournment motion seeking a detailed discussion on what it described as high-handedness by police against its women MLAs.
The protests continued despite repeated appeals from the Speaker and ministers from the ruling Congress government asking legislators to return to their seats and allow the House to function normally.
Telangana Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu moved a proposal seeking suspension of the BRS MLAs for obstructing Assembly proceedings. Following the recommendation, the Speaker approved the action and suspended 22 BRS legislators for the rest of the Monsoon Session.
The move triggered further political reactions, with BRS leaders accusing the government of suppressing opposition voices, while the ruling side maintained that maintaining discipline and allowing legislative work were necessary.
After the suspension, BRS legislators met Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and raised concerns over the alleged treatment of opposition MLAs. The BRS delegation reportedly presented documents and evidence to the Governor regarding alleged police action against party legislators outside the Assembly during the previous two days.
The opposition leaders also raised concerns about the law and order situation in Telangana and alleged that democratic rights of elected representatives were being affected.
The latest suspension comes amid increasing political friction between the Congress government and BRS leadership in Telangana. Since the beginning of the Monsoon Session, both parties have been engaged in protests and counter-protests over multiple issues, turning the Assembly into a major battleground for political confrontation.
