New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that concerns over terrorism originating from India’s neighbourhood remain an important factor in shaping India’s relationship with the United States. He said a lack of understanding or sensitivity towards India’s security concerns can affect bilateral ties.
Speaking about India-US relations, Jaishankar highlighted that security issues and economic matters continue to play a role in the partnership between the two countries. He said terrorism remains a major concern for India and expects its partners to understand the challenges faced by the country.

Jaishankar said India has faced the impact of cross-border terrorism for a long time and security concerns cannot be separated from diplomatic relationships. He stressed that countries engaging with India need to understand its perspective on terrorism and regional security.

His remarks come after India has repeatedly raised concerns over terrorism at international forums. During his recent address at the United Nations General Assembly, Jaishankar said India would continue to exercise its right to defend itself against terrorism and called for accountability for those supporting such activities.
Apart from security concerns, Jaishankar also referred to economic issues affecting India-US relations. He said discussions on trade and other areas remain important parts of the bilateral partnership.
India and the US have been working on strengthening economic cooperation, including discussions related to a bilateral trade agreement.

Jaishankar’s comments underline India’s position that counter-terrorism cooperation is a significant element of its foreign policy engagements. The minister said mutual understanding on security issues is important for stronger relations with partner countries.
