Tirupati: The most revered Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Venkateswara Temple is adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and facial recognition technology for better and smoother services for pilgrims, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

TTD Executive Officer (EO) J Shyamala Rao said on Thursday that the temple administration will authenticate the identity of pilgrims through AI technologies to make the process of darshan more smooth, transparent and secure. At the same time this technique will also curb impersonation and fraud in the entry process.

EO Rao said that TTD is moving towards adopting the latest technological solutions available in the market. With the help of these technologies, a time-bound token system will be implemented for darshan, in which tokens will be issued by recognizing the facial features of the devotees. This system is being implemented specifically with the aim of making the process of darshan streamlined and disciplined.

Tech Token

According to TTD press release, recent photographs of pilgrims - about 10 lakh images - will be analyzed to prevent duplicate booking. This will not only make the darshan process more transparent but will also give more devotees the opportunity to have darshan.

According to TTD, this technology token will be given which will make the process of identification faster and hassle-free. It will also help track the number of pilgrims in various parts of the temple complex - such as queues, entrances and inner areas of the temple. This will help estimate the average time taken for darshan and inform pilgrims in advance.

AI-Enabled Cameras

TTD is planning to install AI-enabled cameras at various locations in the temple complex, which will be able to control the crowd of devotees, estimate the darshan time and inform those waiting about the likely darshan time. Through this facility, devotees will be able to plan their pilgrimage in a systematic and efficient manner.

TTD also wants to ensure that the time taken for darshan under various categories can be accurately estimated according to the time taken in the darshan process. This will also help in eliminating operational flaws.

AI And Face Recognition

Through this new technique, intruders and unwanted activities in Tirumala can also be monitored through AI and face recognition technology. With the help of these technologies, accurate identification and location tracking of suspicious persons will be possible, thereby making the security system more stringent.

Rao also indicated that facial recognition technology will be expanded to all TTD services in the future, making every service tech-enabled and user-friendly.
