NTA Orders Fresh Test for 3 Subjects in UGC-NET, Students Raise Questions (Img: Pinterest)
New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that it will reconduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for English, Commerce and Sociology. The decision follows complaints from candidates about several errors in the question papers.
The development has sparked renewed criticism of the agency, with aspirants questioning how such mistakes passed through the examination and review process.
Students had reportedly pointed out misspelled names of scholars, incorrect book titles, repeated questions, grammatical and punctuation mistakes and problems in translations. The complaints surfaced weeks after the examination was conducted.

The re-examination has now left many candidates facing the prospect of preparing again after already investing months in their UGC-NET preparation.
The latest controversy comes amid wider criticism of the examination agency. Candidates and social media users have questioned whether adequate checks are being carried out before question papers are finalized.
A major concern is the additional burden on students. A re-exam means fresh preparation, uncertainty over academic schedules and delays in plans linked to UGC-NET qualification.
The controversy has also revived calls from some candidates and online users to scrap or restructure the NTA. Critics argue that repeated examination-related controversies require stronger institutional accountability rather than corrections after students have already appeared for a test.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted from June 22 to June 30 in two shifts. The morning session was held from 9 AM to 12 PM, while the afternoon session took place from 3 PM to 6 PM.
UGC-NET determines eligibility for Assistant Professor positions and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.
