Ujjain: A stampede-like situation at Ujjain’s famous Mahakal Nagchandreshwar Temple on Monday left several devotees injured. The incident reportedly occurred near Harsiddhi Chauraha when a large crowd gathered during the darshan process.
According to an injured devotee, people waiting in the queue for several hours were stopped due to crowd management arrangements. When the barricades were opened suddenly, a rush among devotees led to the collapse of barricades and a tent.
Sagar, one of the injured devotees, said he had been waiting for darshan at Mahakal Mandir for nearly 7-8 hours before reaching Harsiddhi Chauraha.
He said devotees were stopped there for some time due to the aarti schedule, but the situation changed after the barricades were opened.
“Suddenly, the barricades were opened and a stampede broke out. The tent fell and all barricades collapsed. Both my legs got trapped under the barricade, and one of my legs was fractured,” he said.
The injured devotee also alleged that there was a lack of immediate assistance after the incident. He claimed that only one person helped him and carried him to a health camp, from where he was shifted to an ambulance.
Another woman, Meenu, whose son was injured in the incident, said the chaos took place near Harsiddhi Chauraha while devotees were moving towards Nagchandreshwar Mandir for darshan.
She alleged that her son got trapped under a barricade during the rush and that help was not immediately available.
The incident occurred amid a heavy rush of devotees visiting the temple during the auspicious Monday of the holy month of Shravan and Nag Panchami celebrations.
